Your Move

  1. Match.

Our hands flew over the pieces as we approached Kamakov's vein, a rich space of unexplored moves. Electronic chatter gurgled through my filters when we moved off book. Top-level play required one to ignore the noise. My hand paused on my knight, calculating moves eight levels deep, discarding disadvantageous spaces, entire galaxies of stars flickering out, concentrating on those moves leaning in my favor. Check.

Annaliese's eyes lost the dead glow brought on by her communion with the bio-silicon book of known moves. Fingers twitched. Bishop took my knight. I countered. She found a gem in a discarded galaxy. Check-make.
