  1. There was something disturbingly sensual about the way Yelena walked around the table in her skin-tight black dress, blowing out the sleek red candles. Sensual because not only did she and the mahogany table look gorgeous, but she moved with intentional grace as if showing off each one of her muscles. Disturbing, because Jason knew exactly where this was heading.

    There were three candles left.

Yelena took her time with each candle, blowing through unnecessarily pursed lips, peering at Jason through the veil of her long, thick lashes. She lingered, then moved slowly, with exotic deliberateness to the next. Jason knew he'd had a crush on this red-headed Russian before he'd ever seen her like this, but he could hardly remember what she was like in street clothes on an ordinary day.

    Two candles left.

She was sweet and kind, polite to a fault, generous at her own expense. But there was also something brooding about her. Shadows tucked away inside the corners of her beautiful green eyes. Yelena was mysterious and exotic.

    One candle left.

At one time, Jason had thought about asking her to marry him, but that now seemed completely ridiculous. Not only was it going to be impossible when the evening was through, but now that he saw her like this he realized just how far out of her league he was. She was no ordinary, pretty girl with wavy red hair, high cheekbones, and a slinky figure. She was far more beautiful and sensual than he could possibly relate to.

Yelena paused at the last candle.

“Are you sure about this?” she asked.

Jason looked at the ring of blood that ran from candle to candle, closing the circle. He looked at the trail of blood that ran from the last candle to the glass decanter in the middle of the table. Then he looked at the bandage which wrapped half a dozen times around his left wrist.

    “I'm sure.”

Yelena narrowed her eyes and gazed into his his with all the intriguing allure she could. She dipped her head near the top of the scarlet candle. She then pursed her red lips and blew slowly, gently.

    Jason watched the flame flicker.

He went out at the same time it did.

Yelena grabbed a hammer from one of the chairs around the table and smashed the decanter. Jason was dead, and his would was gone for ever. She would never love again.

She only hoped she had made his last moments worthwhile.

  2. Wow. I don't think I even know what to say about this story, Nevets, but it might just give me nightmares. Wow.
